IMM5257 Bug: The Latest Version Is Being Rejected by the IRCC Portal
IRCC recently updated the IMM5257 form, but their own portal is rejecting it with the “version no longer accepted” error. Until IRCC fixes this, use the older working version available to download below.

The error message shown on the IRCC portal when uploading an outdated IMM5257
What Is Happening?
IMM5257 is the official IRCC form for a Temporary Resident Visa (TRV) / Visitor Visa application to Canada. IRCC recently released an updated version of this form, but there appears to be a bug: the IRCC portal itself is rejecting the new versionwith the error “The version of the document submitted is no longer accepted.”
This means that even applicants who downloaded the form directly from canada.ca are hitting this error. The issue is on IRCC's end, not yours.
Known Issue: IRCC is aware
The newest version of IMM5257 is currently being rejected by the IRCC upload system. This is a temporary issue. Until IRCC deploys a fix, use the older working version linked below.
Do NOT use the latest IMM5257 from canada.ca right now
The newest version currently available on the IRCC website is the one causing the error. Downloading it again will not help.
Download the older working version below
Use the download button below to get the last known working version of IMM5257. This version is confirmed to be accepted by the IRCC upload system.
Open it in Adobe Acrobat Reader, not a browser
Chrome and Safari PDF viewers can corrupt IRCC form fields. Download Adobe Acrobat Reader (free) and open the form there.
Fill out the form from scratch
Fill in all required fields directly in the new PDF. Do not copy-paste from a previously saved form. Pay attention to fields marked with an asterisk (*).
Click Validate inside the PDF
Use the built-in Validate button before saving: it catches any incomplete mandatory fields.
Save and upload to the IRCC portal
Save as PDF (File → Save As), confirm it's under 4MB, then upload to your IRCC account. The error should be gone.

Why Is This Happening?
- IRCC updated IMM5257 but introduced a bug: The portal's version-validation logic appears to be out of sync with the newly published form. The file is flagged as “not accepted” even though it's the newest official version.
- It affects applicants who downloaded from canada.ca. This is not a case of using an old saved copy. Even freshly downloaded forms from the official site are being rejected.
- IRCC is expected to resolve this. Once they push an update to the portal, the newest form version will work again. Check back here for updates.
What to Do After IRCC Fixes the Issue
- Switch back to downloading IMM5257 directly from canada.ca
- Always verify the expiry date at the bottom of page 1 before submitting
- Do not reuse saved forms from previous applications

Other Forms That Can Hit Version Errors
IMM5257 isn't the only IRCC form prone to version conflicts. Below is a quick reference for three of the most commonly used forms: IMM 5257 (Visitor Visa), IMM 5708 (Additional Family Information), and IMM 5710 (Use of a Representative), with direct download links so you always have the right version on hand.
Application for Visitor Visa (Temporary Resident Visa)
The main form for a Canadian visitor visa (TRV). Required for most non-visa-exempt nationals. This is the form currently affected by the version bug described above.
Additional Family Information
Provides details about family members (spouses, children, and other dependents). Required for most permanent residence and family sponsorship applications.
Use of a Representative
Authorizes an immigration consultant (RCIC), lawyer, or other representative to act on your behalf with IRCC. Required whenever you hire a paid representative.
